The Story of Selyra
Long long ago, in the days before recorded memory,
AO created the gods. And he set among them the
duties of populating the world. Dualdin chose to
create a race of purity and beauty, and cast them
after the image of his beloved daughter Selyra.
And so the elven people were born. They were a
beautiful race, endowed with magic. Because he so
loved his playful offspring, he gave each elf a voice
which sang like the sweetest silver bells, each
gesture and movement transformed into a dance, and
an innate grace and beauty suited for the arts.
But soon the children of Dualdin began to quarrel
among themselves. Violence and hatred spread. In
his anger at his children, Dualdin cast off the
rebels. Bitterness and mistrust grew from the split,
and both the high and dark elven people began to
forget their peaceful ways of song, dance, and art
in the neverending quest for power and superiority.
And Selyra wept for the change, for the pain which
the elven people caused one another. No longer did
they bring beauty and joy into the world, but also
hatred and conflict with each other, and even the
other races.
Selyra beseeched her father to end the conflict and
lift the elven curse which split his people. But
many centuries had hardened Dualdin's heart, and he
no longer taught his people the ways of peace, but
rewarded his faithful with magic and weapons instead.
And so Selyra set out on her own to restore beauty
and love to the damaged peoples. For if there is but
one common bond which the people had forgotten, it
was the ability to love, and to spread joy and
tolerance rather than hatred and mistrust. She
gathered this thread from both the highelves and
darkelves, and began to draw it out. Some did not
hear the call, but others felt Selyra's touch, and
joined her, reaching out to others and adding their
strength to her call. And it grew larger and larger,
catching and drawing in the peoples of other races and
beliefs, for love is something which everyone can know.
To this day, the thread of Selyra's followers continues
to spiral endlessly for those who hear her call: to love
others, to heal our quarrels and wars, to pursue the arts,
and to find understanding within each other.

OOC - OUT OF CHARACTER - KNOWLEDGE
A daughter of Tharandil and Dualdin was Selyra, also known
under the name of Widarlon, the giver of gifts and bringer
of that which is desired and that which is not, Lady of
Harmony, and of Love. She is often depicted as a beautiful
maiden, dancing, all trailed about with vines that entwine
her figure and holding a cup in one hand, surrounded by
musicians.
Not created by AO, Selyra is considered a Minor Goddess, who
seeks to bring beauty and harmony to the world, yet she
does not openly send her followers to fight against those
who seek to destroy the world. Her ways are peaceful, and
thus she does not partake in the larger struggles.
Within the world people see Selyra as a goddess who
will bring no harm to others, and thus she is often
counted to the "good" side. Yet she will not take part
of the struggle between "good" and "evil".
Among the Pantheon
Selyra is regarded as neutral.
