"Come to me my child, do not be afraid!
You are lost to the world, and the twilight scares you now,
but it will not be so for long. Come, take my hand and shed
your last pain, and I will guide you on your last path."
No longer feel I paralyzed when I hear his voice, and my
pain and fear are gone, left behind in a world that matters
no longer to me. His voice guides me, and my spirit follows
eagerly, for he will never lead me astray.
I believe I can see his grey shape, illuminated by the lack
of shadow around him, yet I cannot determine his true shape,
but it matters not, for in death we are all equal.
OOC - OUT OF CHARACTER - KNOWLEDGE
Saran is one of the major gods. He was created by AO when
the world was still young. His task was to collect and guide
the souls of those who were lost in death. And for eons he
did not really bother with the struggle on the face of the
world, but he concentrated only on the task given to him,
without regard of how the people had died.
Then it happened, that Asgoth, who had led a number of his
followers away from the Alliance,
came to Saran, and he asked the serene god for guidance and
help, for Asgoth had found his parting from the Alliance
and their goals a deep distress and error, since it had only
caused further conflicts among both groups of his followers.
Now Asgoth was faced with a number of fanatic followers, who
could not be led back to the circle of the Alliance, and who
would lay down their lives in order to reap souls in his
honour, a gift he no longer could welcome, yet he could not
abandon them.
Saran listened to his grave tale in silence, pondering for
a long while. Then he inclined his head and spoke to the
younger god: I care for all the souls who are lost in death,
and your followers are surrounded by death. Let them come
to my door, and I shall welcome them as mine, for I do not
care why or how, but I care for those close to death.
And so it was sealed that Asgoth would return to the
Alliance, and Saran would care for those warriors that
Asgoth had turned into his care.
And thus it was also, that Saran stepped from the twilight
of his existence and sent his visions to the priests who
would carry out the miracles in his name.
Saran is the god of death and sleep, a deity that focuses
on these neutral aspects in the circle of life. Prayed to by
every citizen who loses a beloved or family member.
Worshipped mostly by warriors under his name, though
maybe a bit misunderstood, as they seem to think it is that
he wishes death to spread violently and without a certain
bit of 'natural order'.
All races view him as a necessity and the deity responsible
for claiming lives and people pray to him in order to wish
for a well being for the souls of those they have lost.
For a very long time he was only referred to as 'They Grey
One', since he represented the tranquil twilight between
life and death.
Today only the above mentioned group of warriors (across
all races) worships him in a different way, understanding
his teachings in a way that often made them appear as
cruel, heartless killers, when they understand themselves
as deliverer of souls to their deity, thinking it is what
he demands.
Within the world some people fear death, and some welcome
it as a natural end. Saran, who has only recently stepped
into the public eye, is seen with mixed feelings, both
good and bad.
Among the Pantheon
Saran is regarded as neutral.
