Orades

IC - IN CHARACTER - KNOWLEDGE

Theme: God of the Humans, Seafarers, Travel and Water.

Symbol: sail over waves
Holy Plant: rovenna, corn
Colours: blue
Temples: Padorn, Clouds and Noradim

Situated in the fair City of Padorn is the main shrine of Orades, the creator of humankind. His followers worship him as the patron of sea-trade, the oceans and travel, asking for his blessings and luck whenever they leave their homes.

Oft you will find a fellowship of travellers set out with their ships to cross the oceans with goods of their home port. They help each other, and they will gather in prayer to Orades before the trip to ask for good winds and speed, and that no harm should befall them.

Although the teachings of Orades do not harp on lawfulness to the letter concerning the acquisition of wealth, they strictly forbid malicious violence or murder, to honour his gift of life and soul to humankind.

OOC - OUT OF CHARACTER - KNOWLEDGE

Orades is one of the major gods. He was created by AO who gave to him the task to bring life to the world. And Orades created the humans, a comparably short lived race which made up for their shorter life spans in the way they explored and conquered, and with the sheer intensity with which they embraced life.
Consequently the humans spread quickly across the world, founding homes and cities everywhere, while most of the other races remained in their own regions.

Water is, like fire, an element of life. The humans learned quickly that with some work, they could build ships and travel over the seas. Prayers were sent to Orades to keep the humans from falling off the edge of the world when they started seafaring. But even the one or other dwarf has been seen praying to Orades when he could not avoid entering one of the dreaded waterfaring vessels.

Among non-human population, Orades is just viewed as some kind of patron for the safe travels over sea. The humans view him as a major deity though, and while not to an extend as the dwarves view Swarnigul, still a very important deity.

Within the world people usually see Orades as a neutral god who does not really take part in the struggle between "good" and "evil".

Among the Pantheon Orades is regarded as neutral.
