The Psionics
The Psionics are a relatively young guild compared to many others,
and in this sense, the guild is also relatively different from most
others. For one, it is notoriously hard for applicants to be accepted,
and most of the guild's abilities are considered a closely guarded secret.
Obviously, however, guildmembers specialize in sharpening their mental skills,
usually to enhance ordinary fighting techniques but also to effect physical
and mental manipulation of persons and environments around them.
Because the basis for psionic powers results primarily from the
mental enhancement of physical attributes, most members of the
guild tend to be human. It's not unheard of, however, for centaurs
or fairies to train in the psionic method. In addition, because psionic
skills are the result of inner mental discipline, and not manipulation
of outside magical forces, a few dwarves have also been known to follow
the psionic school of thought.
The structure of the guild is tiered, but unlike most other guilds,
not pyramidical. The high ranking psionics are called CrystalMasters; among them, four appointed
CrystalBearers lead the guild in a semi-democratic fashion. The CrystalBearers
are given the titles related to the elements, Lord or Lady of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water.
Guildmembers are required to be neutral in both their religious
practices and alignment; worship of fanatic deities such as
Rokoon, Bhaal, or Huizilopochtli is strictly forbidden. Psionics
generally separate themselves from involvement in major guildwars,
and do not align themselves with any particular guild. This does not
prevent members from becoming socially involved in world activities
ranging from trading to journalism to politics.
In addition, Psionics are encouraged to be generally tolerant of all other races,
guilds, and religions, and are not known to be enemies of anyone in particular.
Though the capability for combat exists, psionics are not a combat-oriented guild.
Members are instead encouraged to think through situations and react intelligently,
rather than violently.
