Situated in the fair City of Padorn is the religion of Orades,
god and creator of humankind. His followers worship him as the
patron of fortune, trade and travel, asking for his blessings and
luck in worldly dealings, and his consolation and guidance in
times of ill fortune. To those that have gained wealth through
the favour of Orades, his priests preach generosity and charitable
donations. The priesthood maintains, apart from its lavishly
decorated temple in honour of Orades, the hospice of Padorn where
the poor and homeless can find shelter and food, and the ill and
wounded receive treatment.
The teachings of the priests of Orades purposefully omit any
reference to the lawfulness of any wealth gained, valuing more
that generosity prevails over greed, and need over malice.
A rich, niggardly merchant might well receive less enthusiasm from
the priests of Orades in praying for his soul than a generous
scoundrel stealing from the rich to give to the poor, and luck
and ill fortune are but the ends of a balance in Orades' hands.
Although the teachings of Orades do not harp on lawfulness to the
letter concerning the acquisition of wealth, they strictly forbid
malicious violence or murder, to honour his gift of life and soul
to humankind.
