The Children of AO
It is agreed that the first-born of AO was Rokoon; the strong limbed,
who radiated light from him, the Lord of Light and of the Air. His youth
was a golden time, alone he took the forms that AO had concieved and
shaped them subtly, mixing substances and understanding their relations.
And finally it came that he had produced a world. And Rokoon spoke that
it should be watched over eternally by Chron, Rokoon caused it to circle
him endlessly and gifted him with radiance that the world might be lit.
And Rokoon was pleased with the world and content he was to watch it
circle steadily, its sculpted surface casting shadow and catching light as the
toy of a child.
And AO looked upon the world and he considered its movement and yet was
disatisfied by the stasis contained on its unchanging surface. It came then that
AO concieved his second child and this was Tharandil; the beautiful, whose touch
brings life, Lady of Nature and all that is Living.
As she looked upon the world that Rokoon had made, she knew what was missing
from it. And as she laid her fingers upon it the hard rocks yielded and brought
forth soft earth from within. And she spoke that the earth should be the flesh of
the world and that rocks should be its bones, then touching her fingertips to the
soil she brought life to the world.
At her touch the earth bore fruit, her concept was the seed. All that comes onto
life should come from the seed that is the gift of Tharandil and the growth is
celebration of her works.
So AO looked again upon the world as it moved endlessly around Chron and he
was pleased. And yet he found that still there was something missing from its abundance.
Thus is was that Bhaal came into being, Bhaal; the twisted, Lord of Decay and of Corruption,
Lord of Darkness and Ultimate Destruction.
And Bhaal looked upon the work of his brother and his sister and he said:
"As you my brother have the light, I take the darkness as my own. And as you,
my sister bring life and beauty, so I shall destroy what you have wrought."
And thus it was that Bhaal brought salt into the oceans and caused the light
of Chron to shine only upon one side of the world. He spoke again and brought
the lifeblood of the world through the skin that it ran in burning rivers across the land.
And AO spoke unto them all. In his understanding of the balance of creation he
set the world to spinning that the light of Chron should shine equally upon it and
yet his sons darkness also should endure. He caused the evaporation of the oceans
that they might fall as pure water upon the earth and quench the rivers of fire and
feed the creations of Tharandil. And over this he set Chron as master, though he
called him Tirichron; the balance, Lord of Oceans and Tides, of Weather, master of Time.
As the consort of Tirichron, AO gave consciousness to the body of the world that was the creation of his children and he called her Xylion. Her flesh and bones were the strength of his first son, her beauty and bounteousness the gift of his daughter and her fickle ways the ways of his youngest son.
Thus it became that the children of AO should struggle for dominance on the world of
Xyllomer. And as the eternities passed the children of Tirichron and Xylion came to live
on the world and were drawn themselves into the struggle.
