The Necromancers

The Necromancers? Sit back, pup, and I'll tell you a story.

There are many who fear us. They call are rituals dark, which they are. They say we violate natural balance. But mortals have always feared what they do not understand, pup, and we're no exception.

Barbarians fear magic, because they don't understand it. To them, do you think the cleric looks like the avatar of peace? Does the mage who burns their town with a few words of magic seem like the seeker of knowledge? No, of course not. They do not understand magic, they fear it, and they hate those who use it. Why?

Because they're stupid, pup, as simple as that.

Those who seek the arts we practice come from all walks of life. Mage, Satai, cleric, it makes no difference. They all come here seeking one thing - power. That's what we're about. Not killing, not wrecking the 'natural balance' that dozens of gods ignore. We seek knowledge. The mage who is most respected is the one who has mastered the hidden arts that others cannot.

Our art is not understood, and so they slay us.

They use all manner of excuses... from claiming we worship the Nameless God to our dealing with demons. Ah, now there's a tale that goes back.

The Guardian of Knowledge, Acthogga, was the first. Necromancers learn his name from the beginning, for he truly began our guild. It was he who granted the power and knowledge to the first of us. We are only mortal, after all, and there are limits to our power - but with the aid of the demons, whose power far surpasses ours, ours can grow to heights that mages never dream of.

Interested? I thought so, pup. But not everyone is cut out for this. We work alone, realize that. The books that contain our precious knowledge are few, and many are in the hands of those who fear our power. With so little knowledge to go around, how can we share?

Perhaps you can learn with us. Or you might not. It doesn't matter where you come from, just so long as you're willing to learn.

Fury, Guildguardian of the Necromancers
