Yucatan
Yucatan is an area of mystery for most of the population of Xyllomer.
One of the largest continents almost its entire face is covered by jungle
amidst which clearings have been made for a number of town and even a large city.
Aside from the dangers of the jungle, there is another reason that so few people
travel through the area and that is that it is governed by the followers of the
god Huitzilopochtli with their tradition of sacrificing visitors to their god.
Welcome, traveler, to Yucatan. Before you expands a scenic vista of broad
leaved trees stretching as far as the eye can see. The cover of the vegatation
is broken only by the places were old time and the modern era join together
to provide for the people's of this part of the world.
Far off in the distance you can see where the ancient building prowess of the
native people's has come together to produce a wonderous reminder of the
near forgotten past in the form of an enormous pyramid, towering above
the floor. It seems to capture your eye's glance and bind it to itself but at
the same time to cause a feeling of incomprehensible nervousness that finally
drives your sight to seek new visions.
With a little bit harder looking at the forest below you are able to see a large but
young city. Even from here you can tell that the residents must be among the
wealthiest of the world. The buildings themselves tell of ancient tradition, its
origin steeped in mystery and dripping with intrigue. There is also a smaller
village that must be a sister village though it seems to be less well off than the
larger. In this smaller village it seems that the tradition is no weaker, but only
the money scarcer. The buildings seem very old and many of them have begun
to crumble and decay.
Suddenly realizing that in the excitement you have forgotten to look down
at your feet, you do so. There, quite near at hand, you see a river with
muddy green waters filled with life. Driftwood drifts down the stream
and you are able to see alligators there.
