Dune

Dune is a domain of desert sand and high winds. In stark contrast to its sister domain Yucatan on the same continent it gets almost no rain and the people have developed accordingly. Although essentially of human origin they are now distinct from their ancestors and are now referred to as fremes.

There is a single harbour in the main city of Lonar that is regularly serviced by the public shiplines shown below.

Lonar is the largest city of the domain, almost as large as Padorn itself. The difference is that Lonar's buildings are thick walled to keep out the heat of day and the freezing desert cold of night. Thick walled and painted white, or the color of sand so to walk down the street can be a dazzling experience with the desert sun catching all the buildings ..

The houses are low too. Mostly only a single storey in height they stay below the level of the city walls and avoid the knife-sharp winds and the damage they can do to a badly designed house. Of course a few build higher, for example the Atreides family occupy a huge hall at the eastern side of the town. Equally some choose to live in the caves south of the town and avoid the need to design against the wind completely.

Out through the desert other towns can be found. Villariba is one, Villabajo another. Villariba is a quiet place, leading nowhere much, where only a few mysteries spoil the quiet lives of the inhabitants.

Villabajo is a border town between the domains of Dune and Yucatan. As such there is more activity here with the occasional combat as Satai patrolling their borders encounter the Priests of Huitzilopochtli and their Eagle Warriors making certain of their own border. From Villabajo, 'Tim's Road' leads east into Timbookedtwo, a part of the domain of Yucatan.

Also in the desert is a huge pyramid. This relic of ancient times and civilizations is inhabited only by the undead .. they roam around within its walls and attack all who enter. Although treasures are rumoured to be hidden within the pyramid walls, no-one has ever found more than a few coins or a piece of ancient jewelery. Whether this means it has already been looted or that nobody has yet been clever enough to find the hoard is unknown.
